Australian General Purpose Boots

Hello all,

Here are VN era black leather cotton lace GP boots. There are twelve pairs of riveted eyelets. The boots are reinforced down the back of the leg and ankle and have rubber soles. The soles are marked 'Dunlop made in Australia 9/6'. The boots are marked but very hard to read. There is a clear '6 8' marked on the inside uppers but I am unsure if this is a date. Veteran's name is marked over unfortunately. These boots match well to examples shown on the Australian War Memorial page (I have added one image) but again with no real providence I can only state they are from the era.

I would love to see any other examples!

Can't really date mine! plus an Ammo boot and a bugger I separated the pair accidentally and the other is in a tough spot to find!!!

Trust Rene to have an immaculate pair stashed away. Those calf length boots are interesting in the way they were constructed.

My 1966 dated pair of AB's (unissued). These were phased out over several years as stocks of the GP boot (like Rene's) took over.

just to add a pair of 1965 ammo boots and 1964 gaiters as worn together in Vietnam early on.

Another pair of ammo boots. Blundstone made, 1953. Ive never been sure about the '341' and broadarrow markings: they are stamped on the soles, heels and sides of the boots. Army order number? I have to say, I miss Rene on this site. It was sad to come back after a break of a few months and see he is now banned. Cheers.
