Called a bonnet de police in the French Army, this cap is for a captain in Le 5e Regiment Etranger Infanterie, the Regiment du Tonkin, as it was raised in French IndoChina.
It served in the war from 1949 until 1956, and it's 2nd battalion was the last Legion unit to leave IndoChina in March, 1956.
The cap was made in Limoges on 28 Nov, 1955, so it may not have actually been worn in Vietnam, but it's owner must certainly have done so.
