I have a deal in the works for this cool K98 rifle brought home by USMC Major Donald E. McQuinn from Vietnam. The sling is being held together by fishing line and there still is mud in the butt plate. Major McQuinn served in the Marines and retired in 1971 after serving for 20 years. His post-military career was a author and he has written a number of fiction books.

I see he was assigned to HQ MACV JC 01. Headquarters Military Assistance Command Vietnam but I don't know what the JC 01 means. Could JC mean Joint Command?

    Hello.
Is there an "X" somewhere or some other atypical acceptance?
I think the K98k came to Vietnam via the GDR.

I only see one x on the top of the receiver. The stock & receiver match nothing else does.

    Hi there,

    yes that is the X.

K98 rifle bring back from Nam.

This marks the K98K as a weapon captured by the Soviets from World War II.
The early GDR received the Soviet holdings when it was rearmamented. This was carried out by the KVP, the KG and the People's Police.

This weapon probably comes from GDR or USSR stocks. More likely, however, GDR. The GDR strongly supported North Vietnam with material.
