Great buckle! I too would like to see what the date is on the underside markings! Looks great! Thanks for posting!

Koppel71 - great buckles - thanks for showing
Ben, there is no date on this buckle. the text is :
GES.GESCH. ( = Gesetzlich geschützt / (design) protected by law )
REICHSVERBÄNDE DER
JUNGMÄNNERBÜNDE
DEUTSCHLANDS
WUPPERTAL-BARMEN
ALLEE 191
A great VDA buckle, although I do not think that it should be referred to as the first model. There is at least one other design that pre dates the VDA logo type.
An interesting organisation and with origins from the last quarter of the 19th century and still up and running in one form or another. Essentially, the promotion and support of all things German in foreign countries with an emphasis on culture, language and traditions.
Renamed in 1933 - Volksbund für das Deutschtum im Ausland.
A rare buckle and jolly nice too.

Here are some of mine. The VDA has a zinc faceplate.

David,
wow - I guess they were not for sale
Was there more info in the museum about these 4 buckles ?
I have the CVJM (?) buckle top right. It looks post war. Have a look
at the catch, never saw this type of catch on a pre-war buckle.
