Hi
This is a nice example of the old Army uniform being issued to the "new army" in the 1920's.
It has been in a theatre costume house after it's stint in the Reichswehr judging by the stamps that somewhat take over the insides but they have kindly not erased the 1921 acceptance stamp and left the previous owners name tag in situ.
This nicely compliments a pioneer schirmmütze that I have which is also for Pioneer Battalion 2. There is another example of a cap for this unit in the excellent RW Bible published by the Bavarian Army Museum, so we can probably assume a job lot of "surplus" was purchased by the costume houses at some point and thankfully ensured it's survival post WW2.
Any way, back to the cap. It just needed a clean, a few nicks in the cloth fixing and a cockade re-attaching............no problem.
many thanks for looking on the thread.
cheers
Tony
