only fired that where mine 7.92mm & .303 (bout the same kick), bet the .306 has more kick!
Kick isn't bad with the Garand being gas operated. But I hated it with my Springfield bolt....I don't have much meat on my frame so would stick a rag inside my shirt to ease the recoil. I really don't shoot these anymore so it has been years. I now stay with more modern .223 and similar calibers.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

yup....and proud of it. Cheaper too! I can shoot 5x more rounds of .223 vs 30-06 and probably 100x with my .22's

Thanks Phil, the garand used a little spring clip,a soldier would carry bandolairs of them, most other rifles needed a magazine, to load with stripper clips..The Garand clips only hold 8 not 10 but much lighter and disposable!I need to watch "Saving Private Ryan" again,ha.

I've shot all three, and own examples of two of those three types.

M1 Garand hands down. That is a BATTLE rifle. The supposed 'issue' of being clip fed and having 8 rounds as opposed to 10 was apparently a non-issue. Bomb proof, adjustable sights, reliable as hell and throwing a very lethal and capable cartridge. It would be my choice as a WWII semiautomatic, with the No.4 Mk.I L-E being my choice for bolt action rifle.

Agreed. The Garand sounds the most robust and solid. Wonder if the gov't ever paid royalties to John Garand's widow? Thought I read she sued for money owed.

    I vote Garand.

Good question; overall the M1 wins over these competitors: SVT is easier to feed, disassemble and clean, but is too long to handle, has very basic sights and a rimmed cartridge that can cause jamming. The G43 IMHO is the sexiest and the better balanced, with the plus of the scope rail; but has some flaws in design (look at these bolt “flaps”) and materials. Maybe if she was issued with less hurry, a couple of years before, she could have been the winner.
