    Hello all,

Picked up this interesting piece today which in turn had been an auction find several years ago in the local area. The Mum is intact, but the optic has me scratching my head. Any thoughts on the set up and the rifle itself? Seems to have the name "Tyberi" carved into the stock, perhaps the name of the Vet, though I'll see what research yields. Appreciate the wisdom!

Looks like an honest battle rifle from here. Is it a Type 38 or Type 99? Sorry the scope eludes me too. Wish I had more knowledge on period Japanese optics.

Thank you both for the wisdom and kind words! This ultimately ended up being a piece that was put together by a gunsmith post-war. It is believed by members of the community, and now myself, that the gunsmith did this with malicious intentions, covering up a ground mum and stamping a mum onto the material which covered that portion of the receiver. The optic itself was a US Navy bore sight which had an unrelated Japanese tag riveted to it and markings added to appear as though the optic matched the rifle. To prevent it from being passed off to another unsuspecting collector as a "Japanese Sniper Rifle" etc. I removed the optic from the rifle and the crude weld. A learning experience for sure.

Sorry to hear. In my 1st look impression I was not a fan
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated
