Default Early 1st block M1a1 carbine. 8 of 1942 barell date 48404 serial

Picked this one up. I have always wanted an M1A1. This is an extremely early one I believe. 1st block production 48404 serial number and August 1942 barrel date. That should put it at one of the 1st issued.

Still have to go through it and complete parts list but so far so good I believe.

Let me know what you think.

It is in the correct serial number range and manufacturer. The folder stock is suspect. Can you show proofs on the pistol grips and a close up of the rivets front & back as well as the butt plate markings, please? That will show if the folder is correct. I can compare to the one I have.

An iconic rifle and crazy expensive these days. Congrats. Let's hope it all checks out.

I picked mine up around 10 years ago and even back then it wasn't cheap. Mine is dated 3/43. Not as early as this one but still early.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

Crossed cannons very lightly stamped on bottom of fat boy, don't see circle p, IO stamped on inside right corner. Buttplate stamped in forge with B257614 * can't read last number maybe one you can.

Thank you for the additional pics. I am leaning heavily (90%) towards the folder being good. The concerns for me are the rivet diameter, rougher than normal welds at the attachment points to the stock, the mold numbers on the butt plate and markings on the fat boy grip. Someone else would need to confirm in hand. The pics are good.

I have checked and measured and compared. The rear of the walnut stock is 1.35 as it should be for an extremely early carbine. Crossed cannons is early small mark. Rivets brass. Butt stock forged as it should be. Every thing on this carbine matches very very early production.

    Also got some good

Thanks for sharing. Those carbines sure make great collector pieces. Nice to see such minty and original condition examples.
