Default Information Needed on Enfield No. 5 Jungle Carbine

    Hi Guys,

I have an oppertunity to purchase a 1947 dated No. 5 Enfield that is being represented as a Presentation Carbine. The bolt assembly, trigger guard assembly and magazine are either nickel or chrome plated.

Can someone shed some light on whether or not this may be a unique No. 5 or have there been other examples of this being done to No. 5's or other Enfield models?

While the carbine does look to be in very nice condition, being a collector of war dated Enfields, the chromed pieces just look a bit off to me.

    Thanks,

    Gary

Quite common in the states, but definatly not original British issue. Peter Laidler explained on another forum that no British service weapon would have been chromed plated. If it is a presentation piece from the UK, then it would have been done after service or by the factory and never been in British service, I'd also expect it would have a plaque on it explaining the circumstances.

Is it defo a original No.5 and not a No.4/5 conversion?

I have seen a number of chromed No.3 and No.4 rifles-these were used as Colour Guard escort rifles usually with similarly chromed bayos but I haven't seen a No.5 done in that way-they weren't used much as parade rifles but it's possible it may have been done for one of the Commonwealth colonial nations that used them after WW2 (India, Malaysia etc).

no.5 were never chromed for british use so if it doesn't have a plaque it will have gone elsewhere eg india or somewhere else

There is no end to the amount of BS some sellers are willing to pile on to someone.

    Good to ask questions.
