    Not to split hairs, but technically the top carbine in your first photo is a Model 1938, while the second is a Model 91 with the 'lever' style of locking mechanism, the second of three types made.

    Not a bad looking one at all. The button release was the final iteration of these, with some of the swivel latch models being retro-fitted with a button release sometime after 1938.

    As far as I know there were 3 types of latches. There is a sliding catch type also. Rich A. in Pa.

    Mine is a 1941 Gardone with push button.
