sorry about the delay
i just got home from germany and have them in hand for the first time
the rifle is dated 1942 and is all matching numbers ,including the bayonet
the maker mark is a triangle with something in it ??
the carbine is 1943 ,all matching numbers
with the same maker mark ,
if you know the maker could you let me know please
cheers ian
Is it a triangle in a circle with an arrow in the centre-that's the Izhevsk Arsenal mark, main manufacturer during the Eastern Front war as the Tula Arsenal was considered too close to the Germans and possible capture or bombing.
hi Lithgow thanks for your answer
it is a triangle with an arrow in it ,but no circle
they allso have a hammer and cycle ,in a wreath,???
cheers ian
Doesn't always have the circle mark around the triangle-the wreath with hammer and sickle is the Izhevsk mark from 1928 to 45-the triangle is a post war mark-the receiver should also have a square with a line dividing it in half-this is a mark for an arsenal refurbishment post war-the vast majority of the Mosins retained were refurbished before being stored. Bayos were serial matched to the rifle because tolerances in manufacture were quite wide so a bayo might not fit or be very tight on another rifle.
thanks Lithgow ,,yes it does have the squre with a line through infact both do
cheers mate ian
