Russian capture. See the X mark.
Cheers,
Emile
I think also it is a bunch of serial # added post war, that would be my issue with the seller. This was all to common with German weapons and pistols. Price, bought in USA I say yes overpaid. There is way more and better original guns to choose from. It is a Russian capture with the numbers on a re-worked stock.
Also not sure if we can promote other web site forums here by name, but there are forums dedicated to just K98 rifles. They have the best info.
IMHO...Yes...you can. The goal of this forum is to provide the best information and if there is another source that can provide that then we have done our job correctly
As far as this rifle...As Marty and others have said... a humped up reworked K98 with import marks and "potential" restampings. All this is (once certified by a gunsmith) is a "shooter" . Zero collector value.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated
My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them
"Don't tell me these are investments if you never intend to sell anything" (Quote: Wife)
We know the receiver and stock are WW2 vintage along with smaller parts that are marked. If everything is WW2 as well then it has value to some above shooter grade IMO.
Actually its a lot worse than a normal RC rifle and worth a lot less IMO. The buffed bolt really is the kiss of death to a collector. Also the stock has been stripped and sanded, and parts renumbered. The Russian Capture rifles have some history of their own if left alone, this one was not.Its at best a shooter worth half what you paid.Just my opinion.

Did the Seller use the 'Import Stamp' as a selling feature?
Best to ask collectors before purchase.
More expensive losses have been made.
I hope it works out for you.
