So, found this in the local gun shop. Was priced at 200$ plus 19$ dollar tax(don't remember tax being that high for a rifle here). Now the special thing about this one, is that it's stamped with a triangle one, which means it was sent to Communist East Germany at some point. The wire hanger sling swivels came with it but are not correct for it. Will be selling those off shortly, the bore is dark but strong lands and groves, has a pretty good muzzle too. Some light rust on a small area of the rifling but a few rounds through it will take care of that. Everything matches on it.

Now I'll be off to the gun rack to sort the M44 family.

    Nice MN !

I have what appears to be a genuine factory M44 sniper. The scope is obviously not the original but everything else looks legit.

The M44's were never made as sniper rifles.

    Cheers, Ade.

There were no true M44 sniper rifles, but during the Vietnam war some Type 53 Chinese( Copy of a Russian M44 ) snipers rifles were found. Only a few are known to exist but they're out there. You have a very nice setup though, do you have a picture of the barrel and receiver markings?

I don't doubt you George, but I've slung alot of lead through this rifle and the accuracy past 250 yards is dreadfull, and that's vised from the bench. It's easy to see why they stayed with the 91/30. I don't know the history after WWII, but I guess they would use whatever they had at the time to snipe.

Your right about that Jay, I just shot the pictured earlier today and it was all over the place, but that was most likely an ammo problem. The M44 was made up until 1948 so it saw quite a bit of use after WW2. The rust on the rifling is gone now though

They were made after 1948, mine is dated 1955. With good ammo they are very accurate
