Default unusual flare pistol modified for tear-gas

The interesting gun inside this rather large holster is a WWI variety Hebel German flare pistol that was modified by the German police in 1936 by the addition of bore sleeve, sights and fore-stock for the shooting of tear gas cartridges. The cartridge casing was the same diameter of standard German flare pistols, 26.5mm, but it contained a tear gas round launched through the slightly smaller bore diameter. The sights and fore-stock assisted accuracy, though some pieces had only the fixed sights. The holsters were authorized for production in 1938.

Bill, unfortunately there are no outstanding police markings on the stocked pistol. The front lower grip strap has been filed, perhaps removing Imperial markings or police markings. The gas gun without fore-stock is identical in features (sleeved bbl, front and rear sights) and is marked S.M.28 on the front lower grip strap (where the other is filed). The conversion follows the police order. The holster is E/B and dated 1938.
