Is there anything to consider when buying a Thompson smg? There is no ‘US property stamp’ behind the sights, does that mean it’s not a Ww2 used gun?
Also, where was auto ordnance based during Ww2 manufacture? Because I know the post war Thompson had a different state stamped onto them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There was no production of M1 / M1A1 Thompson SMG's from 1944 until Nurmrich/Auto Ordnance (in West Hurley, NY) resumed production in 1985. They only made 609 in 1985-86.

If your Thompson has a Bridgeport, CT address on the receiver, it is a WW2 wartime gun. They were manufactured at the Auto Ordnance plant in Bridgeport, and at Savage in Utica, NY .... all will have the Bridgeport address however
