Afghan Army Ssh 68 helmet.

Found that wonderful Afghan Ssh 68 helmet by pure luck,
it was out of sight, sitting in the shade on the bottom of a shelf.
The helmet's symbol outlines caught my eye while passing by a vendor's display
on my way out from a militaria show in Ottawa last week. Enjoy.













I found out that the colors location on the
Afghan Army's insignia are very flexible.


Let's see inside.












One of the four "T" bracket each held by one rivet,
we see it's outside head often, it's interior less.


View of the split pins head attaching the padding to the "T" bracket.


Size 2 followed by the batch number.
The circle at the right is it's ballistic acceptance cold stamp.
Note that it's inside star has been eliminated.

Hi Sleepwalker,
I believed that when the Soviets got out of Afghanistan in 1989 they left tons of supplies including Ssh 68 helmet's to the Communist regime still in power. Once out of Afghanistan the Soviets still supplied the Afghan's Communist regime with huge amount of material & ammunition hopping that on the long run the aid to the rebels would diminish & stop. From what I can see the Afghans used whatever helmets were available. The governement forces used helmets, the rebels did use captured helmets but on a small scale.

Nice example Jack and love the side marking ,i have a few Russian war in Afghanistan relic bring backs including this soft paratrooper helmet and also this recent acquisition Afghan army used example

Nice lids James, the camo one is great, the Afghan police (I beleive) with script & the green line stands out for me nicely. Nice photos also.

Your very welcome Jack and happy to add to you thread ,i know i am going off at a tangent here but here is another helmet i have in the pile which i have been advised from a learned collector friend is this Polish Wz 67/75 which on his advice is also most likely ANA used due to its woodland camo pattern paint scheme scheme

Nice set James, your Wz 67/75 stands out with its camo & former user national insignia. Your Soviet/Afghan lids are all welcome, great to look at & keeps the thread alive, thanks.
