Hello.
I don't know what it is ... but as far as I know, there were no such bands for the steel helmet at the NVA.

So i've been told, though i do wonder where it is from then!
either way, it looks pretty neat so i'll keep it on there regardless

Never seen one either, you'd be better off with either of these!

i have the normal NVA net, not a cover though.
when one passes by for sale, i'll be sure to pick one up!
but until then, first i'm going to do some quick research onto a helmet i just bought for next to nothing (why do so many good deals appear this week? not that i mind..)
it's an SSh-40 dated 1958 with a 4-point chinstrap system (it does have the 3 pad liner)

Hello,
yes as references I only know:
- Surface camouflage (Flächentarn) covers (different patterns)
- Dash camouflage (Strichtran) 1 and 2 type (different patterns)
- Olive covers (different patterns) for company combat groups and Volkspolizei riots.
- troop-made white winter camo covers
- Regulator covers (white-orange with DDR symbol)
- Camouflage net first form with drawstring
- Camouflage net second form with hooks
The nets began to be worn on May 1, 1970.
From then on, nets and covers were issued together.
You can often see in pictures that they were also worn together.
For the paratrooper helmet there was a helmet net based on the Polish pattern with a face net.
