Something a little different... I believe this is one of the experimental helmets trialed in 1969 with the leather attached directly to the shell. Judging from its condition the helmet saw some use and was replaced with green washers and an updated liner to what it originally should have had. There are no obvious markings and interestingly the bale loop folds inwards not outwards.
Hi all!!
Hummmmm....
My notification for this thread seems to have switched itself off!!!
But then again....I have been busy of late....
Sadly..(for me anyways) War & Peace this year was devoid of any interesting/different in the Austrian Stahlhelm department!!!! and believe me!!!.... I scoured every inch of the place all WEEK!!!!!!!!
I did pick up on Ebay an M75 Stahlhelm 1...... just before the show.......... pretty run of the mill...but.....for the more unusual 9 lobe perforated liner...dated HBA 1977...(I actually have less of these in my collection than the "RARE" 10 lobers!!!!)
Hey Bernhard!!
Top work tracking down the contract information!!!
and thanks so much for sharing here!!
With your nice rework 57' dated Stahlhelm 2..... illustrating the fact too!!!!!!
With regards to the Net...I have many examples.. I have collected over the few years I have been collecting/neigh... HORDING Austrian M1 clones!!!.... many in mint unissued condition... and one, still with "Made in Austria" export label!!!!! and need to plot out "an Evolution of The Austrian Stahlhelm Net" catchy title eh!!! when I get the chance!!....as a house move is in the offing!!!
And Ocad!!!!
That's a real nice Trials........ M69!!???...... shall we say!!???
I have been keeping an eye out for an example such as that, myself!!! I've seen some, that looked similar...but most looked to be....or eventually turned out to be just cobbled together parts!!!
So.....Well done you!!!
Questions...is there any makers mark/date on the inside liner fingers!!???
And is it just the photo..or is the outer surface... a Camo'ed up paint job!!!????

Hi Austromunga,
Sorry for my slow response too. Busy times. You had luck with the perforated 1977 liner, they appear to be one the lesser common examples (behind the 10 lober that is). Along with the fibre liner they are my favourite.
Yes your right about the trials helmet, there does seem to be some camo pattern, it’s not uniformly done and looks to have been overpainted. There are no markings in the shell anywhere that I can see but the leather is marked Sch82
It should have had a 10 lober liner originally, so I assume that after the trials period it was kept in circulation and given a new liner. This wouldn‘t suprise me if you look at the miss mash of US shells, M57s and Schuberth trials helmet shells that have been given long service... the Austrians QM seem to be masters or resource.
My fellow collectors ,
My newest addition to the Stahlhelm shelf is this nice
1959 U.Sch. shell with replaced chinstraps.
In march 1964 the austrian defense ministery wrote out a contract
for some steel helmet spares ....
5.000 steelhelmet chinstraps with ball closure
8.500 leather headbands for the liner
7.500 nape straps short with 4 clips
This could be one helmet that got one of these replacement chinstraps .
Almost forgot to show the liner that came with this helmet...
It is my first 71 Schuberth liner.
In 1971 the defense ministery wrote out a contract about
5.000 steelhelmets and
10.000 liners
I do not know if Schuberth got a contract of all ten thousand liners .
Can anyone shed any light on the painted silver helmets and liners? I get this impression this was only a practise on early M57s as opposed to later issues ones and M75s. The US liner posted on here and my fibre liner with silver paint under the green leads me to that conclusion.
