Few out door shots, this one has a bit to say!
First camo paint job helmet in my collection! so I'm pretty stoked
James, there are thirty or more indigenous languages in South Africa. All of them use the basic Latin alphabet with some modifications, your symbol is not some kind of script. Looking at it, and the one Rene shows later, I;d say it is a residue of some temporarily applied tactical sign. Definately not a letter, word, hieroglyph, or character anyway
...errr....I dunno....I've been studying these pics for quite a while now....and cross-ref'ing to a whole load of South African websites and ancient manuscripts...and I THINK...I might be wrong here...but I can just make out 65357121 and 74246794....as I say, I might be wrong......further searching leads me to believe that the first string is the phone number for Pizza Hut and the 2nd is Durban Cabs.....two Reserve Regiments I suspect.....

SORRY!!!!
Well at least I have a date now!
note the double webbing on the sweatband cradle. And also the deliberate bends in the shell at the bales to tighten the liner fit.

Rene' Great find and what a Beaut i love the camo scheme and bonus writing and etching on the internals ,Red paint seems to feature a lot in these the more examples i see. I have a spare french liner with similar Painted liner A washer Rivits that are either a faded out red or perhaps pink in colour
Your camo paint colouration reminds me of my Arab Emirates M1 in some ways. Many thanks Greg for your input regarding the marking and i do like the thought it is most likely Unit marking of some sort
Regards James
very good find, I like the field use and wear, this looks like it's been on many patrols , probably used in combat, the date and other markings add to the value.
