I believe that it is a doughboy from the 80th Division. The veteran association of this division has a website with descriptions for the insignias like this one that were painted on the helmets of the troops. Based on this, it would signify Company D (D), 1st Battalion (red), 319th Infantry Regiment (circle), 160th Infantry Brigade.
