    Hello,

here a very rare helmet of the riot police of the Saarland, as it was issued from 1957.

The helmet bears the 2nd coat of arms of the Saarland. The first model was a bit bigger but otherwise the same.

The Saarland had an eventful time between 1945 and 1956. Ultimately, by means of a referendum in 1955, the state came back to Germany in 1957.
A Saar battalion had previously been set up there as a police force under French control.

The helmet is a Quist production, which has already been presented here. The color is also the same.

The split pins for attaching the inner lining are very similar to those used in WW2.

The inner lining, however, is a slightly different model.
It has the small holes in the forehead area.

The inner ring is made of green plastic. The chinstrap is sewn and riveted. The lining consists of foam rubber in the forehead area and otherwise of felt.

This is an example of the helmet used by the Saarbatallion before the reunification with West Germany. There would have been a frontal badge, but not with the same design as shown above. These were also used by the Germans, but usually repainted white.

It is a relative of the French mle45 Jeanne d'Arc, but made of aluminium and with a much simpler liner. There was also, originally, a chrome crest, removed on helmets used after reunification.
