    Hello,

Probably at the beginning of the 1960's another batch of steel helmets was ordered by the Berlin police.

The helmet model had previously been purchased in an olive shade in 1951.

Helmet M1951 - Police of Berlin

This was the M1953 variant. Pictures show that this helmet model was already worn when the Berlin Wall was built in 1961.

The shell is manufactured by Linnemann & Schnetzer Ahlen (LS).

Here the interior fittings were attached to the top of the shell dome with a central screw.

The interior design itself was the improved interior design of Schuberth Werke Braunschweig in 1931, referred to as I53.
The interior is the 2nd model. Originally produced for the BGS helmets, sheet metal parts of the I53 are painted here in black-green RAL 6012.

This varinate of the shell no longer had any ventilation holes and was thus the end point of the M35 development. Without the openings for pins and the ventilation holes, the helmet was a bit safer.

The chinstrap was attached to two eyelets based on the model of the M1 steel helmet.

The 2nd batch of these helmets for Berlin were painted in slate gray and no longer in an olive tone. The paint is smooth.

On the inside of the leather there is usually a mark "P.P. Berlin GB" = "Der Polizeipräsident in Berlin GB" - "The police chief in Berlin GB"

Here is a variant of the M1953 Berlin helmet with a very thin coat of paint.

The interior has large leather reinforcements at the lacing holes.

    The olive M1953

Another variety are the "olive M53" of the Berlin police. They are available from new to heavily used.

Helmet M1953 - Police of Berlin

These are originally slate-gray helmets that have been repainted in brown-olive. The color corresponds to the brown-olive tone of the M1951 helmets.

Where the olive color has been scratched off you can see the original color underneath.

The background was sure to match the color of the olive deployment uniforms.

    Hello Sleepwalker,

I hope you're not angry with me, but I will now abuse your thread and I hope I don't litter it! ...

I also don't manage to take nearly as good photos of the object as you always do! ...

I already have a few "Berliner" lids lying around in my chests but I would like to add a somewhat unusual example I received today.

In addition to the helmet, the package also included a "Y-Riemen" ("Y-strap") / Koppeltragegestell, which is marked with the stamps of the Berlin police.
Unfortunately, I can't decipher them clearly, but maybe you can interpret these stamps?

In addition, there was also a map case in the package, which is clearly marked with the stamps of the Berlin police, (P.P.Bln. in the rectangle).

The helmet itself was stored in a fabric bag which, according to the seller, was used to transport / store the helmet itself.
I've never seen anything like this, so I can't verify it.
Maybe you know more about this bag?

The helmet itself (manufactured by Linnemann & Schnetzer, (Size of the shell: 64, Size of the liner: 53-57) shows very strong signs of wear and it looks as if the helmet was overpaintetd during its "period of service".

There is an ink stamp in the liner which I can't interpret: 42/25
do you know you the meaning of this stamp ?
Could this be a stamp of the police precinct ?
Furthermore, another stamp only partially applied to the liner, probably the stamp for P.P. Berlin ?

    Thx. in advance,
    R.

    Hello,

well, it's no surprise that your own post is always better. Unfortunately, helmet performances are not pinned either.

As far as the origin Berlin is concerned, I'm not sure.
What is the color of the metal strips in the interior?

    Regards

    Hello,

Helmet M1953 - Lower Saxony State Police or Police of Berlin

these helmets can be found every now and then. They differed somewhat from the verifiable Berlin helmets.

I think the stamps in the leather are manufacturer's marks.
It shouldn't be a Berlin ownership stamp because of the shape.

    Regards

    Thanks very much !

In any case, I got all the items together, which of course are no proof of their belonging together, I know...
