Hi everyone, here is my M76/85 known also as the OR 201 model B.
In 1984 the helmet was modernized I'll point out the major modifications as we go. Enjoy
For the curious, the helmet cover is glued on this helmet.
The original chinstrap was the same as the "Kasda" M1 itself copied from the british para helmet.
Nylon webbing replaced the cotton one, a quick release plastic buckle was added
& tubular screws replaced the rivets to hold the chinstraps.
The liner cotton webbing was also replaced with nylon.
The bump pads were modified, the back one having now a groove for the rear chinstrap bale movement.
The front bump pad, we'll see the sticker in detail soon.
Sadly the sides & crown bump pads were removed as often happens with these old helmets.
Identification sticker, from top to bottom.
1- "Tsahal" logo.
2- Model.
3- Manufacturing date, month & year.
4-Serial number.
5- IDF stock number
6- Last line, this one I don't know, help please!
The size sticker: medium
Finally the helmet was modified for the last time around 1990,
improving the ballistic composite material & named model C.
Those helmets were used until 2010 by the Israeli Forces,
manufactured under licence & exported to many countries.
I can add a bit me to the label translation.
Around the Tzahal symbol it says ‘Supply Corps’
1. Helmet, Multi-Layer, Model B
2. Size B
3. Date of Manufacture
4. Serial Number
5. Catalog number
6. Orlite
The M76 designation is purely a collectors term. OR 201 seems to be the accepted model number, this comes from a catalog for selling helmets internationally. I think the OR stands for Orlite the main manufacturer although Tama and Rabintex also made them.
With legible labels I have a 1980 dated Model A, Size B, the first version liner and chinstrap and two Model B, size B, upgraded liner and chinstrap one 1989 Orlite, the other 2001 Rabintex.
If you go by catalog number it possible to piece a bit more information.
1. 1980 Model A – 410 406 152
2. 1989 Model B – 410 406 187
3. 2001 Model B – 410 406 187
There is more to the model change than the liner, the model B is 9oz (255gms) heavier so is likely an improved composite.
The 2001 has the upgraded liner with the black foam disk in the crown, but no catalog number change.
Looking at other helmet labels, I’m thinking 410 is for ‘Helmet’, the 406, is this model and the last three digits the version. The PASGT model is a 410 407 with different three digits at the end.
I just realized your is a 410 406 179, my 1989 looks to have exactly the same liner set up. Could you weigh yours? mine is 3lb 9oz, with a cover.
Little things as the saying goes.
