For several years I webbed a page of good helmet websites, in which Joseba's site (as noted above) featured as a recommendation along with the truly excellent World War Helmets - Reference de casques de 1915 a nos jours. .

Joseba has been in poor health for some time now and has not updated his site for almost four years, and also has sold of a lot of his collection (some of which I am very pleased to have myself). If anyone visits the site and likes it please try to send a simple 'thanks' message to him, I am sure he will be glad to know his work is still appreciated.

For historical perspective - here's the text of my original helmetsites links page from 2003. This was assembled after a LOT of websearching (English-language only, generally) and does give a good idea of how little helmet-related there was on the web back then. Most of these are long gone - very unfortunately in some cases, like Markku Karvonen's very good site - and even many of the compilers have vanished from active collecting now. Some still exist under different names/web-addresses. Now, up here in 2020, my bookmarks list *many* more sites including blogs and FB pages, but in truth it is Joseba and WWH that I rate the highest and visit regularly.

This is a list of of helmet collectors webpages, all I know of as of May 5th 2003. (Latest thanks go to Odyssios for listing Alex's Casques de Combat site on his links page!)

Most links and Google searches I have followed go to dealers rather than collectors; dealers pages can certainly be good for pictures and information (usually accurate - but for a laugh a minute go to Manions, for example...) but what I'm interested in is enthusiastic collectors, helmet fans, individuals who are doing this for fun rather than profit, people who might take great pleasure and interest in their collections. And who like to talk about them too.

Please do let me know if you have any links I have missed - especially if you know of a guy called Andy who used to run a helmet website out of New Zealand that is no longer accessible.

Some of these pages are a bit neglected (but I notice that Michele Tagliavini has just started a major reconstruction of his site - can Roy Rynning also awaken from his apathy?) but still worth a look. Some others, notably Joseba Revuelda's recently redesigned pages, are quite excellent, even if you can't read Spanish without a dictionary! Have a look, do, and tell us what you think.

The pages are listed in random order -

Rather than starting a new thread, I may as well post this here.
Does anyone know the owner of the website Mats' Helmets? Recently, I noticed that the site hadn't been updated in a while, so I saved some of the information externally just in case the site went down. Well, today this thread reminded me of the site, but when I tried to access it, it pulls up a different website. Is Mats' Helmet site gone?

Gunny - Well I did say "Most of these are long gone - very unfortunately in some cases, like Markku Karvonen's very good site - and even many of the compilers have vanished from active collecting now. Some still exist under different names/web-addresses." I simply copied the text of my 2003 webpage (as I said). It was not my intention to provide live links - more than half of these people are no longer active, might be dead as far as I know.

I can organise a set of active links if anyone is interested.

Osius - Mats Rundqvist has a live Facebook page at Log into Facebook | Facebook so may be contactable. MATS' HELMETS has vanished, as you say. I don;t know when it went - I have a copy of the site as it ws in 2015, and it hadn't been updated for a while then. A good example of why you can't trust any enthusiast website/blog page/FB presence to exist indefinately. Whenever possible I copy sites (using Internet Download Manager) for local storage. The Internet Archive is very handy of course but it can be very hit&miss with some sites, often leaving out a lot of the images.

If you go to Mats' Military Helmets (which is via the Wayback Machine) you will see what may be a complete copy of Mats' page from early 2016 ( haven't checked it all). I certainly recommend the Internet Archive - Wayback Machine - (you will need to know the start-page URL of the site you want) but prepare to be disappointed with results from older captures (more than ten years ago, say).

Thanks for the info, and yeah, I am glad I copied down some of the info. I remember checking about a couple months ago on the expiration date of ownership or something and saw that it was quickly approaching. Now I gotta go through all my other sites I use to check on their statuses!

Have a look at this excellent site: Nederlandse politie en legerhelmen | Dutch police and military helmets
