WW2 Dutch police.
Thank you Kilian and Sleepwalker
Tony
I must correct myself. I found this Dutch website that lists this specific version under post-war. You will probably not be able to read it, but it has lots of pictures. You’ll notice that the Dutch police used an enormous variety of helmets over the years, both in gloss and matt black finishes, with and without various decals. Politie | Dutchhelmets.nl
Thank you for the update and information.
Very interesting
Tony
This is a war time M40C helmet (C stands for civilian and is actually the same shape as the KNIL M40, but made expressly for civilian use in The Netherlands.). The liner is of post war manufacture. The insignia on the front is the Rijkspolitie flaming bomb (State Police). Municipal Police used this helmet as well, but without insignia. Furthermore this helmet was used by Civil Defense and various factory guards and the like.
Cheers,
Emile
Emile, what is the most obvious sign that the liner is postwar? Colour of felt?
Hi Greg,
War time liners had orange felt and waffle patterned leather. Post war had several colours of felt (brownish, beige, grey or green etc.) and smooth leather.
Cheers,
Emile
