a lot depends on the seller...there's quite a few seller "aged" current Tourist pieces.
I bought one in Hanoi for about $3....and 6 months outside would've created the same finish....be sure what you're buying.....
I recall reading somewhere that the tourist junk had buckles on the straps which would bend very easy with just finger pressure. Another source suggested that very few helmets actually had a badge on them. The very nature of their construction makes them so easy to age.

Thumbs down for me. Originals are rare as hens teeth. The fact that he has a few would turn me away.
In all the shows I have gone to, I have only seen one that I thought could be original.
Like Composite, I too was in Vietnam a few years back and these are a dime a dozen there.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated
My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

These were still widely worn by Vietnamese cyclists and farmers in the 1990's and later, and natural aging from that era would leave you something like we see here. But really there's no evidence it's 1960's or '70s. I bought a new one on the border with Laos in 1991, looks exactly the same, though mine's in better condition.
NVA Pith helmet make no sense because the NVA was never in Africa or other continents?!
Kind regards

My fault! I thought you talk about the Nationale Volksarmee (NVA).
Sorry for confusion!
Kind regards
Basti
