Hi

If you can find a marking inside the rim, which will be two crossed swords and some numbers next to them, you should be able to successfully date this lid.

e.g. 2 over 58,it's 1958!!

Would the marks be stampted in the helmet or just printed I cannot see any stamps at all may have to do a bit of cleaning the dust

Hi.

Yes ,unfortunetly the stamp was printed on, so it may have rubbed off in time, but judging by the photo you've got a mid 50's model,definetely not an 80's model as the chinstraps were replaced
with green nylon webbing.I have one of these 80's M53's and it has no markings at all, and was bought as unissued!!
