Default Iron Cross magazine is worth picking up!

Hi all, I stumbled across a new magazine called Iron Cross recently which focuses strictly on German WWI & WWII topics. It has articles on militaria, battles & campaigns, interviews with Germans who served in WWII, & all kinds of other relevant topics. Each copy is loaded with high quality photos & each article is very well written.

This particular issue below (issue 4, March 2020) has an article on the history of the 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class as well collecting tips, an interview with a former Hitler Jugend + Waffen SS member named Gerhard Wein, archaeology on the Nordfront, bomber Aces of WWI/II, amongst others great articles!

It's not a cheap magazine ($21.99 US) but well worth it. I bought my copy at Books A Million but you can also order back issues & new issues at Iron Cross - Militaria History

I paid for a subscription as well. Let's hope this magazine sticks around for years to come!

Keep us updated on the quality. How many issues a year and how big is it?

I tread carefully with magazines (as well as any printed reference materials) as I want to know if the contributing authors are experienced.

If the quality is good, please add to our forum reference library. Section linked below

Andy Saunders & Robin Schäfer are the editors. Some contributors include John Vasco, Jan Fast (who I just realized is a member here), Dr. Niklas Napp, Dr. Marco Sigg, Dr. Bruce Gudmundsson, & Dr. Immanuel Voigt.

It's a quarterly magazine and the page count runs around 130 pages. From what I have seen thus far the collector advice is very surface level. For example, in the article about the 1914 Iron Cross Class 2, the author mentioned marker marked examples were "verleihsüke" (award pieces) & unmarked examples were "ersatzstück" (replacement pieces) as well as awarded crosses should have .800 silver frames. It also mentioned the boxes for cased examples are often repro's & fantasy pieces. I personally view the "general collecting advice" section as almost a "neat facts" or "tidbits" section. Reference books & forums like this one are definitely superior.
