That got your attention! I’ve had this ages but don’t think I’ve ever posted it before, an unopened wartime bottle of Lea and Perrins Worcestershire sauce (that’s “ wu-stuh-shuh” sauce not “Woooo-sesteeeer-shy-eerrrrrr” sauce for the folks over the other side of the pond). I’m yet to have the courage to try it on my cheese on toast, although I have seen the videos on YouTube of people eating decades old rations.

That is an oldie but a goodie!!!

And all this time I have been saying Woooo-sesteeeer-shy-eerrrrrr.

Is that how you pronounce shire ?? shuh?? Or is that Cockney???

Thanks in advance from across the pond..

It’s complicated! If one were to say shire, as in “Shire horse” it would be pronounced “shire / shy-err”, when it’s Worcestershire, Wiltshire, Hampshire, etc then the ‘shire’ is pronounced “shuh”, although those who drink tea with their little finger out might pronounce Hampshire as “Hamp-shy-err”. To confuse matters Hampshire is also known as Hants. Also depending on where you are from in the UK then your accent will make you pronounce thing differently. Hope that’s cleared it up
