1918 RAF Tunic W S J Walne
Tunic belonging to Australian W S J Walne serving as an Observer in WW1 wiith the RAF , born in Sydney. Enlisted in RN like his father. He was part of the force to Russia in 1919 where he was MiD (mentioned in Dispatches) for an attack at Kronstat. He is considered a pioneer of Aircraft flying from Naval Ships, pre Aircraft carriers. Returning to Australia he joined the AFC, AAC, then one of the first 21 Officers of the new 1921 RAAF and only Observer, later F/O. Amazing history, flying off a number of HMS and HMAS Ships. He also served in WW2 ending up as a Squadron Leader. He is mentioned in numerous books and was personal friends with Winston Churchill. His son John Walne was a member of Z force during WW2, and helped post war to get the Krait back to Australia. RN, RNAS, RAF, AFC, AAC, RAN, RAAF.
