    Default Mk1 helmet-6th U.S. Division

    Hello to all,
here is my gift, which I received for Christmas, it is this British Mk1 helmet used by a A.E.F. soldier of U.S. 6th Division.
In my opinion it is a production mid-1917, with the rubber ring under the felt and the liner structure in sintetic material (cordite cloth).
This helmet is in excellent condition, complete with all its original components, including the little paper label in the center of the liner; under the oil cloth is visible the red ink stamp of the "British War Office".
The inside is painted in the original color of British Army, while outside has been repainted in brown and the front shows the flash with six-pointed red star, emblem of the 6th Division, this was done probably to participate in the parade organized in the occasion of the return to home.
I like a lot and it seemed interesting to share with you!

    Regards
    Roberto

    That's another cracker Roberto.

I was once told the 6th didn't go overseas, but after checking I found out they did indeed fight in France.

    Thanks Tony,
I confirm that the 6th division fought on the European front in the Vosges sector and participated at Meuse -Argonne offensive.
