US M1912 or M1917 Uniform?
Hi All,
I've been wanting a WWI era US uniform and one popped up on EBay that was real cheap- $15 to be precise. In any case, I guess I should have done a little more research as I cannot ascertain if this is a M1912, M1917 or if I'm wrong on both counts.
This is a no thrills uniform - No insignia, no makers label, just buttons and cloth. Buttons are marked New York City Button Works. There are remnants of insignia on the top right sleeve (unless my eyes are playing tricks on me) as well as on the left, but not as prominent.
As for the breeches, I'm not 100% positive these are military. Could they possible by Boy Scouts or am I mistaken? The color differs from the tunic, so I am positive they are pieced together.
In any case, below are the photos. Any help would be appreciated and will help me to advance my knowledge for when I decide to purchase a better example. Also, any suggestions for websites or books to use as reference guides would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your input, Steve. I would have never been able to identify this difference in the photos of M1912's and M1917's I've been looking through.
After the fact, I was just able to locate this website that explains the variations in all versions of US uniforms from 1900-1918. Quite informative.
