Yet other new to the market medal group from work.
WW1 British Medal Group comprising of WW1 1914-15 Star, War Medal 1914-18 and Victory Medal and a cased Military Cross awarded to Lt Arthur Anderton, RFA. All complete with original ribbons. This group comes complete with family history research and is new to the market. Lt Anderton won his MC in Sept 1918 and his citation reads "For conspicuous gallantry and devoition to duty. This officer was left behind in charge of the ammuntion dump when the section evacuated its lines. All the morning the area was subjected to intense bombardment and at midday the dump was set on fire. He immediately set to work and got it extinguised. Half and hour later it was again set on fire and he was blown into a ditch by a shell explosion. In spite of his efforts the fire got such a hold that the dump finally blew up". Post war Lt Anderton served in Ireland with the Auxilary Division of the Royal Irish Constabulary ("Black and Tans") and was wounded by a grenade attack on K Coy at Dillons Cross in 1920. He was awarded £350 compensation after the IRA attack, quite a sum in those days.
Cheers, Ade
