Ww1 British mk1 with painted tank corps flash on front

Just got this in and I was thinking its a tank corps unit flash with a black cat but can't find any info on it also the painted flash has been laquiered but I didnt pay much for this helmet and it's marked hs 138 complete with liner and chin strap, below are pics of the helmet so maybe someone can help with what unit this is

I don't know that sign but it's got an American look to me.

13th US Armoured were the black cats and the triangular badge is the type used by US armoured divisions, though I don't think they actually had a cat on the badge, and I am not sure what was used in WWI. The helmet is a British made example from WWI.
