Hi Guys, thought I would share these with you from highly decorated U Boat killer from WW1:
WW1 British Royal Naval Air Service Pilots Flying Log books to Sub Lt, later Wing Commander Harry Laurence Nunn, DFC, DSC. Two log books and two 18ct Gold Medallions. The first log book is the RNAS version and begins in May 1916 and ends on Nov 1st 1918. The book is completely filled with entries. Over 20 aircraft types flown. July 1917 posted to Milan, Italy, with No 6 Wing, No 2 Squadron Airplane Flight. Flying Italian Caproni Triplanes. Jan 1918 posted to Malta Sea Plane Base. Anti Submarine patrols. Feb 8th 1918 awarded DSC for sinking a U Boat. April 1918 on duty with 67 Wing RAF Southern Italy. July 26th 1918 another U Boat sunk by his aircraft. Italian Press cutting with translation text pasted to rear of book about being decorated. Also photo press cutting about his aircraft hitting Felixstowe Pier.
He was awarded two 750 Gold (18ct Gold) medallions (Combined weight 13 grams.) by the Giovanni Battista Caproni, 1st Count of Taliedo. "Gianni" Caproni, was an Italian aeronautical engineer, civil engineer, electrical engineer, and aircraft designer who founded the Caproni aircraft-manufacturing company. Both show the company Mountain Goat symbol and the aircraft factory located in Milan. Signed by the artist. One has a plain reverse, while the other has a Triplane on the reverse. The RAF Log book says 3rd log book, flying times brought forward 1325 hours. Starts Jan 1919. Numerous aircraft types listed. 1920's 1930's lists civilian flights. Called up for regular RAF service 26th August 1939. Final entry is 9/7/43. Cover is loose. No back cover.
