In my opinion is a good one

It is an original pre-war Pekuro.
However, it is NOT unworn.
The threads were put there by a collector to help the cap keep its shape.
Also, Pekuro sweatbands tended to separate from the cap, and demonstrate repairs (as this one does).
Real cap, but the wear/mothing & repairs decrease resale (if you were ever to go sell it).
“Show me the regulation, and I’ll show you the exception.”

You are right that there is no lining of the side panels - this was not unusual for EM/NCO caps given that it is the "Roßhaarverarbeitung" - typical for Peküro.

Thanks for the input - I tend to think it's period original as well.

Thanks for having a look - I always learn a little something from your comments.
I thought the strings being some sort of "factory installed shape retention method" was just an assumption on the part of the seller - glad you confirmed this. I'll give this one further scrutiny thanks to your insight. Still a nice looking cap though, even with its faults.

Thanks for the help! I'm not familiar with the term Roßhaarverarbeitung, so this will give me something to research. I have a few nice visors, but have only handled a limited amount, so I've never seen this exact construction - good knowledge to have!

The person who put the threads into the cap must have been somebody who didn't want the cap to be tried on/worn any longer - the threads are sewn in and only wound around the buttons that hold the chin strap as usual!
