What material is the grip?
It appears to be wood.
Is this correct.
Also, what markings are on the ricasso?
Thank you
hi,,,grip appears to be made of wood,,,no markings on ricasso...still curious about the fasces attached to the grip,,a former fascist fighting on the side of the free french or maybe a liason to the Vichy French????...
There is no precedent for a wood grip. The grip can be (pre WWII) composite of white, orange, and dark blue.
So my assumption is the grip is a replacement as many early grips were brittle.
Without knowing what is on the blade we can not date the dagger.
Also, are the fittings gold plated or anodized.
Without knowing if your dagger is pre or post WWII, you will not be able to determine if it is legitimate or not.
I hope this helps.
