Can anyone tell me why it's stamped 1917 ? Year ? Serial ? Maker mark ?
It's mounted on one of my K98 bayonet's.
Thanks.

The rivets are steel? is possible the marking is a serial marking, with letter in front? there is some acceptance letter behind?
The rivets are steel, the washers in the fronst are brass.
It looks like the leather was darkened, origin it was probably brown, it looks like standard M1898 frog, used for long time, when there is a letter with crown above it could be a acceptance, but i dont know about acceptance of leather items in such way.
I'm sure that it has never been brown. I too know nothing about acceptance marks on leather, but it's a good theory.
