The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings
I am sorry, last months i had less time. I dont forgot that i would show pictures. Ok,not much Time but i will pay my dues.
dont know to put a picture in this thread. no function to show the picture direct from my pc ?? i found only the option to put a link to a photo but i have no server or free server. other forums have the option to put picture on the server of the forum. who should i do ?
@ paul
i could send you pictures but i think its not so funny to put hundreds of photos from others in the forum when its your work.
greetings sascha
ok, i found it. my grandfather was in 61.ID by GR162 and fought also for the Ösel Island in Operation Beowulf.
Sascha do you know who the Officer is talking to the Russian POW's ?

no,i dont know the officer. the picture is without writing and it is also possible that this officer is not from GR162,maybee it could be an officer from an other regiment that was also there. no higher decorations so identification is luck.
maybee when there is time i make a better scan, the picture is in the album. it looks like a ribbon from an EK2 and looks that on the ribbon is the Wiederholungsspange EK2 for WW1 Vetrerans. scab maybee helps. so officer with ek2 an wiederholungsspange maybee could give us some possible names. i think ist no normal lietenant, maybee the regimental commander ans if so n major ? but thats only speculation.
picture from cemetry in riga. front on the left side a stone plate. in front of the house you could see the shield from 61.ID.
i got a photo, must be same cemetry, from an other forum that shows the stone plate with the writing. its for 3 Btl. IR162 with the help from AR161.
greetings sascha
