...not being a Russian helmet specialist it would be helpful to know what the obvious errors / flaws are in this one.....just the main one or two...if you've time....
Hello,
Things I'm certain about:
1) Shell paint is too glossy, you can especially tell on the photo of the back
2) Date stamp font is incorrect
3) This was not the liner for ssh39s in 1939
Things I'm pretty sure about but not 100%:
1) Star is wrong (possibly done as a "one-off" but not likely)
2) Paint color is not exactly right. Could be lighting, but I don't think so.
3) Gralex band doesn't have the typical pattern.
Compare to the authentic beauties here:

Thank you. Very interesting.
I agree with Kevin about the glossy paint but especially the date stamp is a big sign for being faked. The star is added much later and indeed as Kevin mentioned the "leather" liner band misses the distinctive pattern.
Sold for $750. Ugh. Even worse, there's another one out there now from the same seller, 273318619581, pictures attached. First time I've seen "production" of fake ssh39s like this, looks like someone has made them look just good enough to fool enough people into paying lots of money for them.
Edit: Top 7 pictures are from the new listing, bottom three pictures are from the first listing, can't figure out how to remove them.
Kevin
If one owns the real thing or has handled a few originals...all the points mentioned here are obvious. But not a bad fake especially when the aging is applied
Thanks for the post
D.
