Bavarian Order of Military Merit with Swords and Crown 4th Class

Here is a minty Bavarian MVO4 / Order of Military Merit with Swords and Crown 4th Class.

The award also came with a mini version. Sadly the ribbon is a repro but I will find an original.

Maker is Gebrüder Hemmerle (Brothers Hemmerle) as you can see that the swords are marked "900" (most probably GH 900) and base of cross on rear marked 950 (Most likely GH900). The "GH" is worn down or lightly stamped and can not be seen in the photographs.

GH were a Munich based jeweler and manufacturer of orders and medals and formerly purveyor to the Bavarian Court.

Always check these for separately attached flames between the cross arms, as a small number of pre-war pieces were later modified with the addition of swords. These are highly sought after.

My example did not have the Flames attached separately. They are part of the mold it appears.

It truly is a beautiful award. Compare this elegant design to it's Prussian equivalent, the Iron Cross.
