Another really nice Max show find. I've been looking to find a Gardes Haube for a while.

This is a Prussian Officers Guards Dragoon Pickelhaub for what I I think is the Regiment "Queen Victoria of Great Britain and Ireland".

Some minor cracking to the lacquer around the arms of the cross as it is slighted pushed down but otherwise in excellent condition.

It has a small silver plated Graf's (Count's) crown (9 points). Sized 59 with unfortunately an unreadable penciled name.

A great pickup Michael! I think that’s one of the biggest wappen’s I’ve ever seen! I don’t think the cracking really detracts too much and it’s all part of the history.

Thanks Andy. It really is an imposing Wappen. It has most of the frosting with some nice polish to the high points.

I do wish I could read the pencil on the inside of the shell. Would be great to know what "Graf" this belonged to!

Thanks Greg. I was luck to pick up three "Garde" related pieces of headgear at the show. This Haub and then two minty visors.

Helmut had a few other top shelf examples at the show. Mine is in the 2nd row of Haubs all the way to the left.

I do wish however he put out the Busby's before I purchased the Haub as I probably would have purchased one of those!

Very nice Michael, of course the Royal houses of Britain and Prussia were closely related but to some that regimental title will sound very odd. I expect it changed PDQ after 1914 just like the cap badges of the British regiments that had Prussian eagles on their insignia

I've always wanted to add a representative pickelhaube to my collection but I admit that I am very wary of all the fakes out there and just don't have the knowledge.

As an aside the central motif of the Order of the Black Eagle with the motto "Suum Cuiqe" is used today on the cap badge of the German Bundeswehr Feldjaeger (Military Police)

"To Each His Own" - Beautiful gilding on that one Michael, a great addition, congrats.

I think an alternative is "May each get what he deserves"
