    Hello Fran,

Sorry for a late answer but I left for the weekend and forgot my laptop so I was without access to the network...

    Andrzej is right.

    Hello again Fran,

Today evening I have looked through the Daily Orders of the 1st Podhalan Rifle Battalion (Scotland), 02/01/1941 - 31/12/1941 and I have found the other list of awarded the Cross of Valour (Krzyż Walecznych) of March 17, 1941. It follows that your Grandfather was awarded the Cross of Valour for the first time:

On the list you posted earlier, in his surname was an error - it was "KUBICZAK". In the list above his surname is spelled correctly.

    Fran,

While looking through the Daily Orders of the 1st Podhalan Rifle Battalion (Scotland), 02/01/1941 - 31/12/1941 I also came across the Daily Order of March 28, 1941 according to which your Grandad was obtained the right to wear a badge (ribbon) for wounds and injuries with one star (it means he was wounded one time). It follows that your Grandfather was wounded on the battlefield one of these days: 18, 20, 21, 22, 23 or 24th of May, 1940 during Norwegian Campaign:

    Fran,

Another one curiosity regarding your Grandad that I have found in the Daily Orders of the 1st Podhalan Rifle Battalion (Scotland), 02/01/1941 - 31/12/1941. It concerns Polish language training. The training covered soldiers who could not read and write in Polish. Their teachers were to be each two soldiers from each company chosen by their commanders. Your Grandfather is among soldiers who were selected to the training:

Thank you Konrad, it's a lot easier to see with drawings than it is with black and white / sepia pictures!

this document in French pinpoints the date as being 19th May. He was brought back to Glasgow and stayed at a hospital until October.

yeah, he never received much of an education, it's nice to know that the military did frovide that in the "calmer" times that were 1941-1942, nice findings there!!

    Hey everyone

it's been a hectic couple of weeks here, as it's been everywhere. I hope you're all safe and sound inside your homes.

I booked plane tickets two weeks ago to go to Warsaw in April to retrieve my grandfather's military record and personal belongings.

The next day the Archives announced they were closed to the public until further notice. The day after that both planes were cancelled and Poland closed its borders from France and Belgium.

It'll have to wait until way later, but there's no rush in any case. At least it didn't cost me anything.

I've received my grand father's record from the DOD. It's all in Polish though. Can you please help me in translating it?

It's all here. Please let me know if the resolution isn't enough.

    Thank you for your help!!
