Hey everyone
I was wondering, what does the brass plate on the stock mean in the rear of the gun? Can't find any definite answers via Google sadly.
It says: Couleurs Lance Amarres
Note, it is a post war MAS-36
Thank you

Hi,
Gun was probably used to throw lines. In this case mooring lines (amarres)!
Don't know the meaning of "couleurs" (colors or national flag). Maybe also used for protocol?

Interesting, never knew they were used for such things
Those guns were probably no more suitable for live firings.
My guess.

Just a guess: is there any ship in French Navy named that way?

Ah no, I meant Couleurs.
Couleurs:
That rifle was used for saluting the National Flag (called "Les Couleurs") in the Navy, in the morning, in the evening and at official ceremonies. Those markings were also used in the Dutch Navy.
Ok, clear now. A double duty blank firing rifle.
